Burnham-On-Sea’s third annual youth parade and Carnival Queen Fun Day is set to be held today (Saturday, June 27th).

The event will take place from 2pm-6pm with a parade along the town’s beach, which is pictured here last year.

It will be followed by an afternoon of entertainment and stalls on the seafront lawns for young people and their families.

Jonathan Smith, the organiser, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re hoping for as many groups involved with youth activities to take part in this event and show the great things on offer for the younger members of Burnham and Highbridge.”

“For the first time last year the parade took place on the beach, giving a wonderful photo opportunity from The Esplanade. Without the encumbrance of the traffic problems, the parade became a very relaxed and fun event with music and dancing.”

The Fun Day is organised by Abbi Fear, this year’s Carnival Queen, which will take place on the green by the Esplanade next to the rescue centre where there will be a rolling programme of entertainment starting with the arrival of the Parade. There will follow a display or dancing and singing, including The Singing Children of Africa.

Jonathan added: “In addition there will be a craft fair on The Esplanade and room for all sorts of stalls for charities, food and fun and games beyond the display area. This is an opportunity for you to put up a stand to talk to people about what your group does and recruit members. You are welcome to raise funding for your group with a tombola or other activity on the stand.”

Abbi added: “I have chosen ‘Somerset Time for Youth’ as my charity for the Youth Day because I am member of this group and they do amazing work for people with learning difficulties. Funds raised during the day will go to this very worthwhile local charity.”
