The 100th anniversary of the W.I. is to be marked with a special event in Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday (September 12th).

A Centenary Exhibition for the WI. is being held at The Princess Theatre from 10.30am.

There will be craft demonstrations throughout the day as well as a tombola, a raffle and refreshments!

The exhibition will show what the W.I. has achieved over the past 100 years and the display which was in Burnham Library’s window earlier in the year will be on display for those who missed it.

Meanwhile, the Belles of Burnham WI group are running their own challenge. Starting at 10.30am, three groups of members will take to the streets in their own version of Bargain Hunt, looking in the town’s local charity shops to find the item most likely to raise some money at an Auction set for 6th October.

The teams will be hunting high and low to find that money making item! The groups must be back at The Princess for 11.30am with their purchases. Other members of the WI will be on hand to share their knowledge, with lots of information about what has happened over the years since the first group was formed in 1915 in Wales.

There are 2 W.I. groups in Burnham-on-Sea – the afternoon group meets on the fourth Tuesday at 2pm at the Community Centre and the evening group meets on the first Tuesday at 7pm at the Avenue Tennis Club. For more information please contact Brenda on 01278 781771.
