Mammoth 65lb marrow grabs attention at West Huntspill Show!

This mammoth 65lb marrow was the centre of attention at the West Huntspill Horticultural Show on Saturday (August 15th).

Local grower Mark Moxey scooped first prize in the vegetables class for the monster, which organisers said was the “largest in recent years” at the long-running event.

Mark told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m really pleased with it – I grew it from peat out on the moors and ensured it had ideal growing conditions. It’s by far the biggest I’ve grown – my previous record was 28lb, but this beats that by quite some margin!”

Crowds flocked to Saturday’s show where a record number of 750 exhibits went on display from 90 exhibitors across 130 classes.

“We would like to thank all those who put entries in to make it an exceptional show,” show secretary Jane Moreton, right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

She added: “We also thank those who came and bought raffle tickets, those who donated prizes, plus the committee who ran the bottle stall, the cake stall, the ice creams and the lovely teas.”

Outside the Balliol Hall stallholders included the scouts, Burnham Beekeepers, the WI, the local church, Christine and her preserves, Nigel and his woodturning, and Sue with her crafts, plus a performance by the Burnham and Highbridge Band.

“Thank you to all the team who helped in any way to make our show the success it is,” added Jane.
