Highbridge town councillor resigns, raising possibility of by-election

A Highbridge town councillor has resigned from her position, raising the possibility of a by-election.

Cllr Dawn Malloy has stepped down for personal reasons, it was confirmed on Wednesday by Mayor Michael Clarke.

“Sedgemoor District Council has been notified that Town Council has a vacancy and notices have been displayed on the parish notice boards accordingly,” the Town Clerk Denise Emery told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“If within 14 days of this notice, a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made in writing and delivered to the Returning Officer at Bridgwater House, an election will be held to fill the vacancy; otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.”

Cllr Dawn Malloy was elected onto the Town Council in May this year, representing Highbridge.

More details on how to become a town councillor in Highbridge are available from the Electoral Services department at Sedgemoor District Council on 0845 408 2544, or by calling the Town Clerk on 01278 788088 during office hours.
