The results of the Town Council elections in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge were announced on Saturday, (May 9th).

The Conservatives have an overall majority on the council. The Tories won 12 seats, the Lib Dems won five, and there is one independent, as listed below.

Speaking after the announcement, Cllr Peter Burridge-Clayton, Leader of the Conservative group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am delighted we have increased the number of seats we have on the Town Council, and I would like to thank everybody that voted for us on Thursday. I would also like to thank the candidates from all parties who put their names forward and were prepared to get involved within our community. I know there are a number of disappointed candidates, but I hope they will remain involved and put their ideas forward through their elected representatives. I look forward to working with our new council and I hope the newly elected members find the experience rewarding and enjoyable.”

And Lib Dem leader Cllr Phil Harvey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “People appear to have taken more account of local issues in voting for the Town Council than they did when voting for the district. I’m pleased that the Liberal Democrat group has returned to five. I’ve no doubt that my new colleagues will work very hard to represent their wards – and the people of Burnham and Highbridge as a whole.”
