Over £2,500 is expected to have been raised for local charities when dozens of people from across the Burnham-On-Sea area took part in a sponsored swim in Brean on Sunday (February 8th).

The annual Swimarathon, run by Burnham Rotary Club and the Inner Wheel, saw a dozen teams swimming lengths of the Brean Splash pool.

The swimmers retained all of the sponsorship funds they raised for their nominated good causes.

Organiser Ashley Edwards told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were delighted with the number of swimmers taking part once again this year.”

“A great time was had by everyone and a good sum has been raised for local causes.”

He said a total of over 4,000 lengths of the pool were swum by the participants over the course of the day, with the Burnham RNLI Wives and Girlfriends swimming 472 lengths and the Brean Splash team doing 450.

Among those taking part were Burnham Swimming Club, Burnham Inner Wheel, Brent Knoll Girl Guides, Fifth Burnham Brownies, Berrow Guides, Burnham RNLI Wives and Girlfriends, Monarchs Gymnastics Group, Brean Splash and Burnham Army Cadets. The event is set to return in early February next year.
