Met Office issues warning of more summer storms in Burnham area

The Met Office has warned that Burnham-On-Sea could see more dramatic thunder and lightning storms today (Sunday) and Monday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the area, saying that persistent and at times heavy rain will develop across the area and last through the first half of Sunday, clearing northwards by the early afternoon.

The public has been warned that flash flooding may result from either short-period intense rainfall or more persistent heavy rain.

The Met Office’s Chief Forecaster added: “More persistent and often heavy rainfall will arrive during Sunday morning as an area of low pressure develops and causes the frontal band to pivot close to southwest England.”

“Some parts of the warning area could receive 30-60 mm of rain through the period, which will include some localised downpours which could produce 15-20 mm within an hour.”

Burnham experienced thunderstorms last night (Saturday) as a front of stormy weather, triggered by high temperatures, swept through.
