Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has this week said it is not interested in taking over Burnham-On-Sea’s Morrisons store.
In a cost-cutting move, Morrisons shut down its store in Burnham’s Pier Street at the end of November with the loss of dozens of jobs.
Rumours have since been circulating that several retailers are interested in taking over the site.
One of those was Sainsbury’s, but the firm’s spokesperson Angharad Lynch told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “We are always looking for new sites, but we are not opening a store at this location.”
Meanwhile, B&M Discount Stores has so far declined to comment about speculation linking it to the site.
