-

A Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing Club could soon be launched in Burnham-On-Sea if there’s sufficienct interest from local people.

Information will be available during this weekend’s Rescue Services Day taking place on Burnham seafront this Sunday (August 9th), as previewed here.

Members of Burnham Sailing Club will be set-up behind the BARB hovercraft building on the seafront from 9am until late afternoon and hope to hold a gig launch and rowing demonstration at 12 noon, depending on conditions.

“Gig rowing is currently the country’s fastest growing team water sports ideal for the highly competitive through to anyone just looking for healthy exercise,” said the club’s Vice Commodore Dave Wrennell.

“Gigs needs a crew of six rowers and a cox, and many of the current registered teams are all girls crews.”
