Burnham and Highbridge Town Council says it is ‘working urgently’ to correct an error on carnival road closure signs around the town which give an incorrect date.

Several town centre businesses say they are concerned that trade will be hit because the signs incorrectly warn to “expect town centre road closures” on November 9th and 10th, when in fact no town centre roads will be shut on Tuesday November 10th.

Some temporary closures will be in force as usual during the evening of the Burnham-On-Sea Carnival on Monday November 9th, and also along The Esplanade and Pier Street on Sunday (November 8th) during the Burnham-On-Sea seafront fireworks.

The error was pointed out by Cllr Louise Parkin during a Town Council meeting this week. “It might be petty to some, but to shops in the town centre who rely on business this is a big mistake and no-one wants to miss out on trade,” she said.

Burnham’s Town Centre Manager said the dates on the signs had been drawn from the road closure applications. She added that the council is now updating them.
