The expansion of Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront pier as part of a £100,000 overhaul is set to go ahead next month, its owners have said this week.

Louise Parkin, who manages The Pavilion on Burnham’s Esplanade, was granted permission to install a £60,000 high-tech folding roof and other improvements last year.

She confirmed this week that the construction work will get underway in early September. The existing covered conservatory area that forms the current food court has this week gone on sale for £5,000.

“The new roof is scheduled to arrive on September 7th immediately after the holidays and the furniture will then come later in the month,” Louise told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We will have 104 covers in the new covered food area and will be open through the winter months. We hope to have 120 covers in place for next Easter.”

Back in March last year, The Pavilion was granted approval for the work to install the £60,000 high-tech folding roof along with another £40,000 of improvements.

Sedgemoor district councillors said they wanted to help the economic vibrancy of the attraction, which is renowned for being Britain’s shortest pier.
