Police say a body has been found in the search for a missing teenager in Cheddar.

Rasmus Barlow, 16, a pupil at Strode College, did not attend any lessons on Monday and failed to attend college on Tuesday, prompting an appeal for people in the Burnham area to look out for him.

However, a body was found on Wednesday afternoon and investigations are now underway.

“At about 2.30pm, a member of the public discovered the body of a young man at the base of a cliff at Cheddar Gorge – a short distance from the village,” said a police spokesman.

“Formal identification has not yet taken place but Rasmus Barlow’s family have been informed of this development and are being fully supported by trained family liaison officers.”

The area where the young man’s body was found was sealed off so further enquiries could take place at the scene.

Police had said his disappearance was “extremely out of character” and they were concerned for his welfare.
