Two fire appliances from Bridgwater and Burnham were sent to the scene at 3.20am.

The lorry had collided on the motorway with a barrier and had leaked a large amount of fuel onto the carriageway.

“Crews used an environmental pack to clear the fuel and left the incident in the hands of the Highways Agency and the Police. The Environment Agency was also informed of this incident,” said a spokesman.

Seperately, Ambulance crews were called to Berrow Road in Burnham on Friday evening at around 5.30pm following a collision near the junction with Shelley Drive. None of the injuries were believed to be serious.
