Burnham-On-Sea RNLI station launches £41,000 lifeboat appeal

Crewmembers at Burnham-On-Sea RNLI have this week launched a special fundraising appeal to raise £41,000 towards the cost of a new lifeboat.

Burnham's current D-Class lifeboat, called Puffin, will come to the end of its operational life next year after giving 10 years of service since its arrival in 2006. The boat has carried out scores of rescues in that time.

Crewmembers launched the station’s Lifeboat Fundraising Appeal on Wednesday evening (June 3rd).

Matt Davies, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager at Burnham, said: "This is an exciting time for all the volunteers at Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station."

"We are starting the campaign to try and raise £41,000 for a new boat. We'd like it to be a community-led event by getting local businesses and people involved so they feel part of the campaign."

Burnham RNLI Chairman Ashley Edwards added: "Our fundraising team already have a lot of fun and interesting fundraising events lined up for the next 12 months and the crew are looking forward to getting involved and working with the community to raise the money."

Burnham RNLI currently has a 7.5m Atlantic 75 called Staines Whitfield and the smaller 4.95m D class inflatable boat named Puffin which will be retiring.

Hazel, Adam and Chris Priest were among the visitors at the launch event
