Burnham-On-Sea’s annual August Bank Holiday Monday fete raised thousands of pounds for good causes despite being scaled back due to poor weather.

While the crowd numbers were down on some previous years, the event in the Manor Gardens still provided a success and raised £3,000 for Burnham Hospital.

Organiser Tony Deahl from the Friends of Burnham Hospital said that overnight heavy rain had forced the event to be scaled back.

“The ground in the gardens was soaked so unfortunately we had to call off the dance displays from the Monarchs and Lisa Jane School of Dancing, and also cancel the bouncy castle, but the crowds still enjoyed many stalls and superb performances from young singer Gracie Wickens-Sweet and children’s entertainer Kirk Andrews,” said Tony.

“We were relieved that the weather stayed dry for the rest of the day and, overall, we were happy with how it went. Our thanks go to everyone who came along and supported the event.”

All profits from the fete go to make life better for patients and staff of Burnham Hospital.

Many groups and charities, including Burnham Lions, Burnham Rotary Club, BARB, Macmillan Cancer Support, Fibromyalgia Heart of Somerset, the RNLI, BOSH Events and Prostate Cancer Awareness were present, running their own displays and stalls.
