Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club bounces back after power failure

-

A power failure led to Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club pulling out of Friday’s Weston Carnival at the last minute – but the club returned in great style at North Petherton on Saturday night.

The club’s Christmas-themed entry, called It’s A Cracker, had to abandon their Weston appearance due to technical difficulties, but then won second place in their class at North Petherton.

Hillview’s Lyn Burland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Everyone at the club was really disappointed on Friday night. Our generator completely failed which meant there was no music and no lights and with torrential rain as well we decided not to take part.”

“It was a difficult decision, but we decided to call it a day for the children’s sake – they couldn’t have performed properly.”

She added: “Fortunately, the generator company visited us on Saturday and managed to fix the problems, so we were able to get back out again at North Petherton. We were over the moon to come second – it was a great evening and a very good result.”

The club’s next carnival is Shepton Mallet on Wednesday night, then Wells on Friday and Glastonbury on Saturday.
