Burnham darts player Gary Anderson to play in world final today

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Gary Anderson could become world darts champion today (Sunday).

The local darts supremo will face Phil Taylor in the PDC World Championship final after fourth-seeded Gary beat defending champion Michael van Gerwen on Saturday night.

Gary, aged 44, beat Dutchman Van Gerwen 6-3 in an exciting semi-final match to reach his second world final.

Anderson finished with a 50% checkout success and a three-dart average of 102.2 against his younger rival, who missed four darts to take a 4-3 lead.

“The more pressure I put on him the more he missed,” Anderson said on Sky Sports.

Gary reached the final in 2011 when he lost to Adrian Lewis, but his form at present is arguably the best it has been for four years.

He is now just one match away from a first prize cheque of £250,000. The final will be broadcast on Sky Sports today.
