Infestation of rats and mice temporarily closes Highbridge food firm

-

Officers from Sedgemoor District Council’s Food Protection team have this week used their emergency powers to temporarily close a shop in Highbridge following an infestation of rats and mice.

Bargain Brand Food Outlet of Commerce Way in Highbridge has Prohibition Notices displayed at the entrances to the shop and warehouse, the council said on Tuesday.

“The Environmental Health Officers will ensure that any contaminated food products are disposed of properly,” said spokesman Adrian Gardener.

“The operator now has 14 days in which to apply to the council to formally re-open the premises, which will involve a follow up inspection.”

“The owner is keen to work with the Environmental Health Officers to make sure he can do the appropriate work so that he can re-open as soon as possible.”

“We are working closely with the owner to get the order lifted as quickly as possible.”
