Burnham Food Festival launch party starts countdown to the big day

-

The countdown to this month’s sixth Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival got underway on Thursday night with a special launch party.

Local businesses and food retailers were among the 50 guests at the event, held at Benton Furniture in Highbridge, which provided a sneak peak of what will be happening.

The organisers, Bev and Sarah Milner Simonds, said the festival on Saturday May 23rd will be the biggest yet.

Burnham’s Lib Dem election candidate Tessa Munt also took a brief break from campaigning to attend, right.

This year’s Spring festival will see over 100 stalls set up around Burnham town centre selling a wide range of food and drink.

There will also be the Great Burnham Bake-Off baking competition, demo chefs, plus a welly wanging competition and children’s entertainment.

Among those present at Thursday’s launch were Sarah and Rich Welland of Berrow Beef, pictured, who told Burnham-On-Sea.com they’re looking forwards to the festival.

“It’s always a great event that has ben hugely helpful to us in spreading the word about what we do. We get lots of repeat custom after attending the festivals. We’ve only been going a year, but the festival has put us on the map,” said Rich.

Mike Smith of Mike’s Pork added: “We wouldn’t miss it – this will be our sixth time of attending and we always sell out when we attend even though we always take along more stock each time. We are big fans of the festival which is a good supporter of local food and drink producers.”

Among those present at Thursday’s launch were King Alfred School, who showed the work of food and georgraphy students.

Bev Milner Simonds added: “We are very much looking forwarding to seeing the streets of Burnham filled once again with happy smiling faces.”

“We have listened to people’s feedback about creating a day out for all the family and this festival includes a welly wanging competition in College Street plus children’s entertainment in the town centre and a human fruit machine. There will also be lots more seating for poeple to take the weight off their feet during the day.”

“We will have over 100 traders attending, making us the biggest food festival in the south west – selling everything from pork pies and jerk chicken to pizzas, beef, fruit and veg and chilli plants.”

The event will run from 9am-4pm on Saturday May 23rd.
