A Burnham-On-Sea jogger has warned beach users to take extra caution after he was attacked by a dog.
Andrew Hyde was taken to hospital with leg wounds after the attack by a border collie on Friday morning, which occurred in the Berrow Beach parking area at 10.10am.
“I was going for a jog along the beach when the dog, which wasn’t on a lead, walked towards me and turned and bit me. I’m glad it was me and not a child,” Andrew told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“I’d like to thank a man who helped me contain the bleeding at the time. The dog owner was unhelpful and looked at me as if it was my fault.”
“I would like to bring this to everyone’s awareness and ask them to be cautious.”
Andrew, right, was taken to Burnham’s Memorial Hospital where he had the wounds dressed and his leg bandaged.
The dog was described as a black and white old-looking border collie. Andrew is urging beach users to take exta care.
Sedgemoor District Council manages the beach and its Dog Warden can be contacted on 01278 435210. Concerns regarding dangerous and aggressive dogs can be referred to Avon and Somerset Police on 101 or in an emergency 999.
