New community agent appointed for Burnham and Highbridge

-

The Community Council for Somerset has appointed its first Community Agent in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.

Steve Ballinger, pictured, will work closely with GPs and other health professionals at Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre and Highbridge Medical Centre.

His role is part of the Community Council’s Somerset Village Agents Project and aims to improve the quality of life for people with long-term health conditions.

This may be by reducing feelings of isolation by helping people find activities they can take part in or by connecting them with the right services to help them tackle a wide range of problems like social care issues, money worries or lack of mobility.

The post is funded by the Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group. Referrals to Steve will initially be through GPs and other health professionals at the local GP practices. All calls and advice given are treated with strict confidentially.

Steve said: “I’m really excited by the role and the opportunity to help improve the lives of people’s with long-term health conditions.”

The CSS Village Agent team now covers just over 56 per cent of the county, including the villages around Burnham and Highbridge. You can more full details of the Village Agents, including the areas covered and contact details, here. You can contact Steve on 07746 340541 or by email at steve@somersetrcc.org.uk.
