2010 X-Factor winner Matt Cardle is set to perform in Burnham town centre, to include live music acts, a fun fair and entertainment to coincide with a late night shopping evening, on Saturday 12th December.

The event, called the Christmas Spectacular, is being organsied by Burnham Events Social Team, a community group which is also organising the town’s festive skating rink.

The event will run from 12 noon until 8pm and will see the closure of the whole High Street for a family fun fair, with the addition of a live music stage that will include an evening performance by a previous X-Factor winner.

The Burnham Events Social Team, pictured below, had sought £4,000 of grant funding from the Town Council to hold the event – but councillors at their meeting on Wednesday evening voted to award £3,000 to match the funding the group has already raised for the festive event.

“We are putting in place a live stage which will showcase some great local talent and groups,” said BEST’s Craig Peters. “With late night shopping included in the day’s activities, we wanted it to live up to the event title. We want to make it ‘spectacular’ and have secured a former X-Factor winner to perform who will be a great draw.”

He explained that the grant funding would be used for “the stage, lighting, the act, and entertainment through the day,” and added that 40% of Burnham’s traders have agreed to stay open late until 8pm on the evening.

The group says it is working with Burnham Chamber of Trade and the Town Council to organise the event.
