Youngsters in the Burnham-On-Sea area have until this Wednesday (March 18th) to enter this year’s competiton to become the Carnival Queen or a Princess.

Following lots of interest in recent weeks, the entry period has been extended by two days until Wednesday.

The winners will be picked during a pageant to be held at The Ritz Social Club in Burnham-On-Sea’s Victoria Street at 6.30pm this Friday (20th March).

Those wishing to become a Princess must be aged 16 or under while the Queen also has to be 16 or over and live within five miles of either Highbridge or Burnham.

This year’s Queen entry forms are available by clicking here, while the Princess entry forms are available by clicking here.

“In the spirit of the ‘carnival for the community’ with neighbourhood bonding between charity and community groups, the Carnival Queen Pageant organisation hopes an entrant will be selected who will not only reflect the resilience of Carnival but will represent and influence young people to get involved in the many projects which require personnel in our area,” said organiser Linda Bullimore.

“The Carnival Queen will be chosen as an ambassador for the Carnival as well as the precincts of Highbridge and Burnham. It is hoped that the Carnival Queen will assist with community projects in the area over the year ahead.”

Dress will be smart casual for this Friday’s pageant, and there will be no spectator entry fee. The evening will be held as a non-profit event.

This year’s Highbridge and Burnham Carnival takes place on November 9th, with a full preview available via the link below.
