Carnival clubs from across Somerset gathered together for the annual Highbridge and Burnham Carnival presentation evening on Saturday night (January 3rd).
Over 200 people crowded into Highbridge’s Oaktree Arena to see more than 40 trophies and shields presented to the winners of last November’s parade by Burnham Carnival Chairman Phil New and President Malcolm Borland.
Members of Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club, pictured above, also had a great night, receiving six awards for their cart ‘Jungle Fever’ during their 40th anniversary year.
The Spirit Of Carnival Award – given to the club that has shown the true spirit of carnival – was awarded to Pentathlon Carnival Club, right, who entered the carnival despite having their cart surrounded by deep floods in Moorland for many weeks last winter.
Hucky Duck Carnival Club received the top trophy, the Phil Harris Memorial Bowl, for the best entry in the entire Burnham procession after their stunning float ‘In Flanders Fields’ impressed the judges.
Burnham Carnival Chairman Phil New told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This event was a great night when the clubs from across Somerset come together and look back at a super carnival.”
