Spectators flocked to the 19th annual Brean Rally at the weekend for two days of high-speed action where over 100 competitors blazed a trail around the track.

Dry weather left perfect driving conditions for the 12 stages of racing around Brean Leisure Park.

Steve and Yvonne Furzeland clinched the winner’s title in their Subaru Impreza S12 World Rally Car, but he had to beat the competition.

Arron Newby from Cumbria, also competing in a Subaru Impreza, had been in top spot at the end of Saturday’s racing with a ten-second lead.

MP Tessa Munt presented the winner's trophy to the FurzelandsWhen the racing restarted on Sunday, he increased his lead but then his turbo blew up during the second stage, putting him out of the event and giving Steve Furzeland the title.

Organiser Rod McKenna told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The event went really well – we’ve had a super weekend of rallying, watched by big crowds of thousands of people.”

Among the teams was Burnham’s Stuart Duckett and Matt Isaac, who had a good event in a Peugeot 206. “It’s been a great weekend – we’re happy with how it’s gone,” said Matt.
