New brand identity for Burnham-On-Sea debated by town councillors

Proposals to introduce a new ‘brand identity’ for Burnham-On-Sea were debated by town councillors this week.

Town Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds unveiled the plans during the council’s Town Projects Committee meeting on Monday.

“I’m suggesting we commission two professional artists to design two new images for Burnham to create a new, unified look and feel for the town,” she said.

The images – to feature the beach, seafront and Pavilion – would then be made available for traders to sell branded products such as ceramics and postcards in the town.

Cllr Martin Cox said: “I’m keen that we have a friendly brand that people can recognise Burnham by – not just the town crest which is used on formal Town Council materials.”

However, Cllr Nick Tolley added: “This could be the foundation for a super new identity but we should remember that there are very skilled artists here in Burnham already and it would be good to see some of those young people who produce outstanding work in our schools being involved.”

Committee Chairman Cllr Paul said more feedback from Burnham’s traders on what products they require is needed, along with further details about the proposals and community involvement before a decision is made. Further work will therefore be undertaken on the brand ideas and students’ involvement.
