Clean-up operation and a celebration held at Burnham youth centre

Volunteers at the Burnham Area Youth Centre have rolled up their sleeves this week to take part in a work party.

A day of painting and repairs has been held to smarten up the interior of the centre and its main hall before a busy winter of events.

Among those taking part were Doreen, Jim and Warren Frape, pictured right, and the centre’s Mike Lang and David Price, pictured top.

Chairman Mike Lang said: “We owe a lot of thanks to Jim, Warren, and Doreen who form the heart of our regular maintenance team, and are among numerous volunteers who help keep the BAY Centre ticking over.”

A celebration was also held to mark the recent replacement of the centre’s upper windows, attended by representatives from several groups who financed the upgrade with grants and donations.

Among them were RAOB (Buffs), Burnham and Highbridge Deputy Mayor Bill Hancock, Chair of SDC, Lions representative Mike Wise from Lions, with BAY Centre volunteers. The guests were also given a conducted tour of the centre.

Finance for the new upper windows came from SDC, Burnham Town Council, RAOB (Buffs), Burnham Lions, Burnham Harriers, Burnham-On-Sea Moose International and other more anonymous donations.

“We run the BAY Centre as a community facility, and hopefully are able to celebrate the building at last being weatherproofed for the oncoming winter weather,” said Mike.
