Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue won the title of Sedgemoor Charity of the Year during a regional business awards ceremony on Thursday evening (March 19th).

The long-running Burnham charity, which operates two rescue hovercrafts and an inshore rescue boat, was presented with the title by a panel of judges at the Sedgemoor Business Awards for a second year running.

Over 200 people attended the event at Bridgwater College, where ten awards were handed to the area’s top businesses and groups.

BARB Chairman Mark Newman received the award on behalf of the charity, with fundraiser and crewman Chris Bess, pictured.

“This award is superb recognition for our charity’s dedicated volunteers, who put in many hundreds of hours each year on training, fundraising and attending incidents – we are very proud to receive the award on behalf of them,” said Mark.
