Discount retailer B&M ‘not interested’ in Burnham’s Morrisons store site

-

Discount retailer B&M has no current plans to take over the former Morrisons store in Burnham-On-Sea, it has said this week – just a day after Sainsbury’s said it also has no interest in the site.

B&M has spoken out after rumours that it was considering taking over the Pier Street store, which shut down at the end of November with the loss of dozens of jobs.

“I am not aware we are looking at this site at the present moment,” a spokesperson for B&M told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday, without fully ruling out possible interest in the future.

It comes after we reported that Sainbury’s said it is ‘not interested’ in taking on Burnham’s ex-Morrisons store earlier this week.

This week’s news comes as a setback to local residents and campaigners who want to see a supermarket retained at the site rather than any form of non-commercial development.
