Big-hearted Burnham residents donate hundreds of gifts to Albania

-

Hundreds of needy children in Albania have received shoeboxes full of Christmas gifts thanks to the generosity of people in the Burnham-On-Sea area.

Burnham Baptist Church, together with St Andrew’s School and Berrow School, collected over 200 boxes.

These were added to those collected in Baptist churches across the area, making a total of 1,600 shoeboxes.

Pastor Steve Ayers and his daughter Becky were part of a team that flew to Albania over the past week to distribute the gifts in and around the capital, Tirana.

Steve told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was great to give out the boxes and be able to assure all the people who donated boxes that their boxes had arrived and were given out.”

“We took lots of pictures and are hoping that some of the children will be able to spot the box that they gave being received by an Albanian child.”

“It was a brilliant effort and we are so grateful to all the people who worked so hard and were so generous.”

“We will certainly be taking part in this again and hope to collect even more boxes next year. A big thank you to all the people who donated boxes!”

Film and photographs of the trip will feature in Burnham Baptist Church’s Christmas Eve service at 4pm and on Christmas Day at 10.30am, before being shown to the schools during assemblies and posted on the church’s social media page.
