World War 1 centenary walkers to visit Burnham on trek round Britain

-

A group of fundraisers who are walking around the whole of Britain’s coastline to mark this year’s centenary of World War 1 will be visiting Burnham-On-Sea during the summer.

To commemorate the centenary, the charity Veterans In Action will begin a 4,000 mile walk to be completed over 100 days, starting on 28th April.

The group will be walking around the whole British coastline, visiting Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Highbridge on July 4th.

Spokesman Garry Goldingay said: “The aim of WW1-100 is twofold. Primarily it is to raise awareness of the centenary of the start of the Great War, and the sacrifices made by the three million British and Commonwealth service personnel who were killed or wounded in the service of their countries.”

“Secondly, it is to learn from the past and raise funds for those veterans who are currently suffering from the effects of war, or who have found the transition to civilian life difficult.”

More information is available on the group’s website at www.v-i-a.org.uk.
