Concern for teenagers on mudflats causes call-out for rescue services

-

Coastguards and Burnham’s rescue hovercraft were called to Weston beach on Monday afternoon (July 14th) amid concern for the safety of a group of teenagers.

The beach warden raised the alarm at 3.15pm after spotting the four youngsters wading through deep mud a mile from the shore with the tide starting to come in.

“There was a lot of concern for them given their distance from the beach and the state of the fast-incoming tide,” said a Coastguard spokesman.

“Fortunately, the youngsters were guided back to the safety of the beach and were unharmed. We urge people to stay away from the muddy areas of the beach and head warning signs.”

Coastguards from Weston and Burnham were sent to the incident, along with a rescue hovercraft from Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue.
