Concerns raised as travellers arrive on Burnham’s seafront lawns

-

Residents have expressed concern after the arrival of a group of travellers on Burnham’s seafront lawns over the weekend.

Sedgemoor District Council and Burnham Police were ‘monitoring the situation’ after several caravans pitched up on the South Esplanade lawns near the town’s Yacht Club.

They arrived late on Saturday afternoon and three caravans were still in place on Sunday evening, although one of the vans had been moved onto another area of grass nearby.

Several residents have contacted the council to seek their removal.

One resident, Paul Hambleton, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are concerned by the arrival of the caravans and have raised it with the council.”

“It’s not good for tourism when visitors and walkers see them parked along our seafront like this.”
