Burnham-On-Sea holiday park in new legal action to move travellers

-

A Burnham-On-Sea holiday park is taking legal action to move a group of travellers who are camped on its property.

Two caravans have been sited at the front of Burnham Holiday Village on the South Esplanade for over a week.

It follows Sedgemoor District Council securing a court order earlier in the month to force the travellers from Burnham’s seafront lawns near the Yacht Club.

A spokeswoman for Bourne Leisure, which runs Burnham Holiday Village, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our legal team are taking action to get the travellers moved. While we have increased security at that end of the park, there have not been any problems.”

Local residents are unhappy at the length of the time it is taking to move the travellers. “They have been here for three weeks and are cleverly taking advantage of the slow legal process to maximise the length of their stay,” said one resident.

“It’s a real problem that’s hurting the town’s image when holidaymakers are seeing washing hanging from trees and gas cylinders lying around.”

Meanwhile, a group of travellers who briefly set up camp on Berrow Green last week have moved out of the area.
