Dozens of tap dancers from Burnham-On-Sea have this week joined a nationwide bid to break a world record.

The group from the DanceFit Academy on the Westmans Trading Estate in Love Lane took part in a nationwide tapathon, with the aim of setting a new record for the most tappers dancing the same routine at the same time in multiple venues across the UK.

The event was held at the Burnham dance studio, under the guidance of national organisation The Performers Project, which oversaw the record bid.

Victoria Roberts, from DanceFit, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “30 dancers aged eight upwards took part in our fourth annual Tapathon.”

“As well as raising money for Children In Need, we also were hoping to break the world record for the most tap dancers performing the same dance at the same time.”

“We raised £87.50 from the sale of cakes and refreshments, which was donated to Children In Need. Everyone had a great day and really enjoyed learning and performing the routine which this year was to the music of Happy by Pharell Williams.”

“We will hopefully find out in a week or so if we have managed to break the world record.”
