Members of Burnham Swim and Sports Academy’s swimming team achieved an incredible 72 personal best times when they took part in a regional competition this week – and a local school swim team has also been celebrating this week too.

At the first Open meeting of the Academy Swim Team, 127 swimmers from around Somerset competed.

The Academy Swim Team won a host of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and posted 72 personal best times which was “a phenomenal achievement,” the Academy’s Sara Cox Conklin told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The Academy Swim Team have now qualified 19 swimmers and gained 67 qualifying times for the Somerset County Championships being held at Millfield in March. This is a phenomenal achievement for a team that is less than five months old!”

They were competing against swimmers from Taunton Deane, Clevedon, Minehead & West Somerset, Weston-Super-Mare, Cheddar Kingfishers, and Street & District.

Meanwhile, 13 schools have also taken part in the 2014 Biathlon Championships at Burnham-On-Sea Swim & Sports Academy.

A great afternoon’s racing saw King Alfred School and St Andrew’s School battling it out to determine who would take the championships. Only 25 points separated the two teams, which was less than four seconds on the run.

In the end it was King Alfred School, pictured here, who were victorious. The Sedgemoor Small-Schools Trophy, introduced for the first time this year, and kindly donated by the Lions Club of Burnham, was won by Mark First School, with the runners-up Axbridge.
