Downing Street drama for Burnham-On-Sea first aid volunteer

-

A Burnham-On-Sea St John Ambulance volunteer rushed to the aid of a teenage boy during a reception at 10 Downing Street this week after he collapsed while waiting to meet the Prime Minister.

Stacey Webb, who was attending the reception to celebrate her first aid work during the winter floods, caught the boy as he fainted and gave him first aid.

Stacey, who has been volunteering for the first aid charity for seven years, said: “We were waiting for the Prime Minister and I saw the boy’s eyes start flickering upwards.”

“I went over to him and asked if he was alright but he passed out and I caught him.”

“He wasn’t unconscious for long – he had just got too hot and felt dizzy, but I looked after him.”

The incident delayed the Prime Minister’s arrival at the reception, while Stacey, who is from Burnham, and her patient were called to one side to meet him.

“David Cameron thanked me personally,” she added. “I’m just glad I was in the right place at the right time.”

“You never know when you’ll need to use your first aid skills. I think every young person should have the chance to learn them at school.”
