Shire horse rescued from water-filled ditch by Burnham fire crews

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater rescued this lucky shire horse after he go stuck in a rhyne on Thursday (October 2nd).

A fire appliance from Burnham and a specialist animal rescue team from Bridgwater were sent to Animal Farm at Berrow in Red Road at 12.08pm.

“Crews found a shire horse weighing two tonnes stuck in a water-filled ditch. With strops, lines and an off-road vehicle, the crews managed to release the horse,” a Burnham Fire Brigade spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Animal Farm’s Crystal Finch said: “A massive thank you goes to the fire brigade for assisting with the safe recovery of Rocket, our shire horse who managed to get himself stuck.”

She added: “Rocket was checked over by the vet and is now safe and well.”

“We were worried about him and are very relieved that he is making a full recovery.”
