Burnham-On-Sea Scouts roof appeal gets a £1,000 boost from local firm

-

Burnham-On-Sea Scouts have reveived a £1,000 donation this week towards the cost of replacing the damaged roof of their HQ.

As reported here last year, the group is in a “desperate” need to replace the leaking roof on its building at Burnham’s BASC sports ground, but it needs £20,000 to carry out the work.

Sarah Rendell, Chairwoman of Burnham Scouts, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are hugely grateful to the Co-Operative Funeral Care in Burnham for coming forward with this superb donation of £1,000 to help the project.”

“As a thank you, our Cubs, Beavers and Scouts have made a number of World War 1 themed items for a display in the Co-Op’s window over the summer.”

Sarah Barton from Co-Operative Funeral Care in Adam Street said: “We are a new business wanting to help our community and when we heard about the Scouts’ plight we agreed to help.”

The Scouts need a further £16,500 to replace the roof, which is deteriorating quickly. “The protective paint on the roof is peeling away, leaving holes and patches of damp and moisture coming through,” said Sarah Rendell who added that several fundraising events are being planned over coming months.
