Burnham parents asked for views on the length of school holidays

-

Parents in the Burnham-On-Sea area are being encouraged to have their say about proposed school term and holiday dates for the academic year starting September 2015.

Every year Somerset County Council consults with schools, staff, governors, parents and carers and the public on draft school term and holiday dates, which will apply to all Community and Voluntary Controlled schools.

The consultation has started this week and runs until Monday 31st March 2014.

The proposals include a week long October half term break, a two week Christmas break and a two week break directly after Easter Monday bank holiday. The summer holiday will be just under six weeks in duration, excluding possible INSET days.

Cllr Frances Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Somerset County Council, said: “We are proposing Somerset’s school terms will be of similar length, starting on a Monday and finishing on a Friday, whenever possible.”

“We are working with our neighbouring authorities to ensure we are aligned as much as possible, which is particularly helpful to those families who live close to Somerset’s borders. We urge everyone with an interest to have their say on our proposals by 31st March.”
