‘Santa Paws’ collection for stray dogs launches at Burnham pet shop

-

A ‘Santa Paws’ shoe box appeal has been launched in Burnham-On-Sea this week to help give stray and homeless dogs in kennels a Christmas to remember.

Dog lovers are being invited by Sedgemoor District Council to donate either a shoe-box filled with presents such as dog chews, collar and ID tag, leads, coats, blankets and canned dog food or bags of dried dog food or individual gifts.

People can leave their doggie gifts at a drop-off point set up inside the Animal Fayre Pet Shop in Victoria Street, Burnham.

Sedgemoor’s Dog Warden told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Christmas is always a sad time of year as more dogs are brought in during this time and it can be difficult re-homing them, not least because little is known about them.”

“We have some really lovely dogs that are in desperate need of a loving home and the Dog Wardens would urge people to come and have a look now and after Christmas.”

“Our role is to pick up stray and abandoned dogs and try and reunite them with their owners or find new homes where this is not possible.”

“Many dogs are left out on the streets abandoned and having to fend for themselves. If people acted more responsibly, we wouldn’t have to put them in kennels and find homes for these poor unwanted animals.”

“We are meant to be a nation of dog lovers, but the stark reality is that many are leaving their once beloved pets out in the cold. This could be because they can no longer afford to keep them for whatever reason. But some people just don’t care.”

Please clearly mark boxes and gift with ‘Sedgemoor Santa Paws Appeal’. The last day for delivery is Monday, 22nd December.
