A Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard has retired this week after 15 years saving lives along Somerset’s coastline.

Robin Hewlett, 65, was presented with a glass tankard during a ceremony held at Burnham’s seafront Coastguard station on Wednesday (March 5th).

Robin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I will really miss the role and the super team here – it’s been a very busy 15 years with many highs and lows.”

“I was involved in the tragic Dylan Cecil and Lelaina Hall incidents, both of which were so harrowing. There have many positive rescues as well over the years which make being a Coastguard so worthwhile.”

“I’ve had a great relationship with the crews at BARB and the RNLI as well, who are an important part of Burnham’s marine rescue team. I will them and the team at the Coastguard a lot.”

Burnham Coastguard Steve Bird thanked him for his work, saying: “We’re sorry to see Robin leaving – he’s been a great member of our team who’s always reliable and keen to help. We thank him for his dedication to the role and all his work over the years.”
