A man has been arrested this week following a smash-and-grab robbery at a Burnham-On-Sea shop.

As first reported here, cash was stolen during last Friday’s robbery at Sweet Shack in the High Street just before 5pm as the shop was preparing to close for the day.

A police spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday: “A 20 year-old local man has been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery. He is due to appear before Taunton magistrates.”

It comes after a man entered the shop and threatened the shop’s assistant before smashing the till to gain access, amd grabbing a quantity of cash and running off.

Shop owner Kirstie Isom told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It all happened very quickly – we are all shocked that this happened and I’m just relieved that no-one was hurt.”

Police scientific investigators were later seen taking fingerprints as evidence.

Police were on scene in Burnham High Street for several hours after the robbery
