A £20,000 project to increase safety on a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea is among several local schemes to get the formal go-ahead this week.
A new traffic calming scheme in Stoddens Road, on the bend near the Rectory Road junction, and separate road safety improvements near the BASC ground have been granted funding by Somerset County Council.
The projects in Burnham and Lympsham are included within a new £2.2m transport plan to improve highways and road safety across the county, which has been unveiled this week.
Burnham County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton, pictured, said: “It’s great news that these schemes have been given the formal go-ahead. The work is aimed at reducing traffic speeds and increasing safety.”
More than 80 new projects have been put forward as part of the County Council’s annual Small Improvement Schemes (SiS) programme.
Cllr Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet member for Highways, said: “We are committed to improving and developing the road network in Somerset but face many challenges with our highways budget under increasing pressure.”
