Gusty winds created stormy seas and challenging conditions for the competitors in Burnham-On-Sea’s annual sailing regatta on Sunday (May 25th).
One yacht ran aground after being blown off-course and another lost its ropes during the action-packed race in Bridgwater Bay, pictured here.
The club’s David Humphrey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very blustery afternoon that created some challenging conditions.”
“One yacht, Sapphire, ran aground just before the race started and another, Marmalade, had problems in the high wind, but it was a great event after a wet race on Saturday. Andy Walker on the yacht Merlin is the front-runner.”
Three days of racing has been underway in Bridgwater Bay with a further race to come at 4.45pm on Bank Holiday Monday. The event, run by Burnham Sailing Club, has also seen several social activities being held for members.
