Rail travellers in Somerset face continuing disruption this week after weekend flooding left a crucial line submerged.

Network Rail says that the routes to Exeter and Taunton from Bridgwater and Castle Cary are still under water caused by the flooded River Parrett.

One of the two lines has completely disappeared under water, as pictured here, and engineers are closely monitoring it.

Lines between Bridgwater and Taunton are also closed due to flooding. Services terminate and start back from Weston-super-Mare.

Services from Highbridge and Burnham Rail Station have been affected due to the problems and further delays and cancellations are likely. Travellers are being advised to check the Network Rail website.

“Rail engineers have been out in difficult conditions, repairing and monitoring the railway,” said a spokesman.

Meanwhile, Network Rail also inspected the site of a landslip near Crewkerne on the Waterloo line during Sunday and said it is safe to run trains at a reduced speed. However, disruption is likely due to stock and crews being out of position.
