Police make arrest within 20 minutes of theft at Easter church service

Quick work by Burnham-On-Sea Police saw a man arrested within 20 minutes of a theft from a pensioner during an Easter Day church service in Highbridge.

Police were called to Highbridge Community Centre in Bank Street on Sunday morning after an elderly woman reported her purse with money and bank cards had been stolen.

“We spoke to people inside and one of the congregation was able to give us a clear description of a man who’d been acting suspiciously during the service,” a police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We followed this up and shortly afterwards took a man into custody who matched the description. He was held was within 20 minutes of the incident being reported to us thanks to the community involvement.”

The man was in custody on Sunday evening.
