The stage at Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre has a smart new look this week.

The Friends of The Princess have presented the theatre with a set of brand new stage curtains following months of fundraising.

John Holmes, Brian Saunders and members of the theatre’s kurling group are pictured with Sam Nicol, the Princess Theatre’s manager, at the formal handover of the curtains on Thursday (May 15th).

Made by B.O.S Interiors in Burnham’s Victoria St, they replace the curtains that had been hung on the stage for more than 20 years and were starting to become threadbare with several visible tears in the fabric.

With several high-profile events coming up, including a visit from a BBC production team, Sam says it is important that they were renewed.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are thrilled with the new curtains, and very grateful to the Friends for them. The old ones were really no longer fit for purpose and to have these up ready for the busy season ahead is great news.”

“The friends are a great support to the theatre and it’s good to have an opportunity to say thank you and show off some of what all their efforts have achieved.”

The Friends of The Princess raise money throughout the year, holding events such as an annual bazaar, a New Year’s Eve Ball, and weekly kurling sessions every Thursday afternoon.

Joining the Friends group is easy – just complete a form at the theatre and for £5 a year you have the satisfaction of supporting Burnham’s local arts venue while receiving benefits and discounts throughout the year.
