£14,000 modernisation boost for Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre and Arts Centre has this week been handed an early Christmas present with a major cash injection.

The theatre in Princess Street has secured £14,000 of funding from waste company Viridor towards the cost of a much-needed equipment upgrade.

“It’s fantastic news – we’re delighted to secure such a big funding boost which will enable us to install new sound and lighting equipment in the theatre,” Princess Chairman Peter Burridge-Clayton told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The equipment is long over-due for an upgrade – several of our lights date back to the 1950s.”

“The new kit will help local groups who use the theatre because they won’t need to hire their own modern equipment. It will also help to attract a wider range of performers here.”

He added that £4,000 of further funding has been raised towards the project by The Friends of The Princess as part of a commitment to provide partial match funding.

Peter thanked Eileen Shaw and Sam Nicol for their help in securing the funding through administrative work in recent months.
