Prince Edward set to visit Burnham-On-Sea charity on Monday

The Earl of Wessex is to visit the volunteers who run Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue on Monday (June 9th).

Prince Edward will be visiting the charity’s seafront station on Monday where he will meet volunteer crewmembers and see the charity’s two life-saving hovercrafts and inshore rescue boat.

He will also hear about the charity’s work during recent winter flooding on the Somerset Levels and unveil plans to further develop the charity.

"We are delighted and honoured to be welcoming the Prince back to Burnham five years after his last visit. He has showed a great deal of interest in BARB’s work and we are looking forward to telling him about our plans for the future," said BARB Chairman Mark Newman.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, visited Burnham last week to finalise plans for the visit.

BARB President Neville Jones added: "His Royal Highness will also unveil the latest of seven information panels on the sea wall. This one details Royal visits to the Burnham area over the last millennium."

Princess Alexendra was the previous Royal family member to visit Burnham back in 1995 when she opened the town's Princess Theatre.
